Methodology for Teaching Portuguese to Foreigners

✎ PERSONALIZED APPROACH FOR EACH PROFICIENCY LEVEL. In my teaching method, the first step is to assess the student's proficiency level. This initial assessment involves a brief conversation and a diagnostic questionnaire, which identifies the student's knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and communication skills. Once the level is established, I adapt the content and activities so that the student can develop all the necessary skills, in a balanced way.

✎ DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS For students at all levels, communicative skills are the foundation of learning. The main focus is to allow the student to express themselves and understand Portuguese in real situations. From the first classes, students are encouraged to participate in conversation and role-playing activities, simulating everyday situations, such as ordering a coffee, introducing themselves, shopping and other practical situations.

✎ TEACHING PRONUNCIATION AND FLUENCE Pronunciation is one of the challenging aspects for foreigners and, therefore, I pay special attention to sound and intonation from the beginning.

✎ USE OF INTERACTIVE AND TECHNOLOGICAL MATERIALS Online classes allow me to use a variety of interactive tools to make learning more dynamic and engaging. I use resources such as visual presentations, virtual boards, videos, music and podcasts in Portuguese. The use of technology helps create an environment that simulates real-life situations and allows students to practice with authentic, up-to-date materials. Additionally, students have access to review exercises, quizzes and reinforcement activities between classes, which allows for continuous practice and helps solidify learning.

✎ FOCUS ON THE CULTURE OF LUSOPHONE COUNTRIES Teaching Portuguese goes beyond learning the language; It also involves knowledge of the cultures of countries where Portuguese is spoken. In all classes, I include cultural elements, such as music, literature, traditions and particularities of Portuguese-speaking countries, mainly Brazil and Portugal. This allows the student to have a broader view of the language and feel more connected to the language they are learning.
